Valladolid

Valladolid is the capital city of the Castile i León area of Spain and is located exactly in the centre of it. The city is situated on the river of Pisuerga which runs through the centre of town, though the old side of the city is on the eastern side. With hot summers and mild winters, Valladolid is a great place to go all year round, though summer can be extremely hot.

A historic city, Valladolid was taken from the Moors in the tenth century at which time it was little more than a small village. However, the Spanish count, Pedro Ansúrez, developed it in the eleventh century and it fast became an important city as it became the capital of the Kingdom of Spain until 1561.
The city still boasts plenty of architectural attractions such as the Church of Santa Maria la Anitgua and an impressive Plaza Mayor. You can also find here the greatest collection of wooden sculptures in Spain, located in the National Culture Museum. There is also the University of Valladolid, hence the city’s vibrant student scene.

The Old Quarter is well preserved, full of impressive religious buildings and grand houses. The Plaza Mayor is a well maintained and civilized place surrounded by cobbled streets and impressive buildings, such as the city hall.
