Palma

While Majorca is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe, many people do not take the time to explore its delightful capital, Palma. Though everyone arrives in Palma, almost always by plane, most end up heading straight for the resorts, missing out on what is perhaps the most beautiful town in the Balearic Islands.
Palma has many cultural attractions as well as a lively nightlife and a great selection of restaurants. Unlike the modern resorts that blight some areas of the coast of the island, Palma is refined and beautiful, complete with palaces, cathedrals and museums of every kind.

What’s more is that Palma still feels like a real part of Spain, with most of the inhabitants of the island living in the capital. Unlike the resort towns, Palma is certainly not just like a warm area of Britain with hordes of tourists everywhere you go.

Palma has a rich history that is evident in its architecture and cultural attractions. Having been founded well over two-thousand years ago by the Romans, it was further developed centuries later by the Moors and then afterwards by the Spanish. At this point, the Gothic cathedral of Sa Seu was constructed to become a defining monument of the city.
Palma is easy to get to with cheap flights coming from many cities in Europe and any time of year is a good time to go there, though the winter months are generally too cold for a beach holiday.
