The former capital of Moorish Spain, Córdoba has a rich history indeed, with influences and relics of Christianity, Islam and Judaism to be found everywhere. Being such a significant city to the Moors, the mosque, La Mezquita was constructed there to be one of the most important Islamic spots in the entire world.
Córdoba is also home to an important historic Jewish centre which lies to the north of La Mezquita. This area remains largely unchanged in spite of its great age and is a world centre for Jewish culture dating back from the Spanish Middle Ages.
Another impressive site in Córdoba is the Roman Bridge, dating back from when the city was founded by the Romans of ancient times. The city is small and manageable, only having a population of 325 thousand. However, Córdoba was once much larger, being amongst the most populated cities in the world when it was the capital of the Caliphate de Córdoba.
Córdoba also hosts a number of annual festivals, including Holy Week during Easter and the Crosses of May. There is plenty to do in the town and a lively atmosphere ensures that you will not be getting bored, whatever you are looking for.
